A Japanese phone number for your trip

A data connection helps you find the restaurant. A Japanese contact number lets the restaurant call you. This service gives you access to a Japanese number with a personal extension for your trip dates; the number itself is not an exclusive mobile number.

Bookings and local contacts

  • Restaurants can call about a reservation.
  • Hotels or luggage services can contact you about arrangements.
  • Tour operators and drivers can call if a meeting point changes.

Keep your Singapore number private

Share the Japanese number and extension with travel contacts instead of giving out your Singapore number. The extension is released after your trip and may later be assigned to another traveller.

Callers in Japan dial a Japanese number rather than your Singapore number. Normal call charges may apply under the caller’s phone plan. Booking systems differ: some do not accept extensions, so check with the venue before relying on this number.

How the Japanese number works

1. Share your number + extension

Give the caller your assigned +81 number and personal extension. They dial the number, then enter your extension. Put the extension in booking notes too, where available.

2. Receive the SMS alert

An SMS alert sent to your registered Singapore number includes the caller’s number and a link. Keep the registered line able to receive SMS while abroad.

3. Tap the link to answer

Answer through the link over Wi-Fi or mobile data. No app installation is required. Your Singapore number is not shown to the caller.

Before flying: check international SMS reception and roaming requirements with your Singapore telco, then confirm and test the call-alert setup with us. Turning off your Singapore line or blocking roaming may prevent SMS alerts. Use the Japan eSIM for mobile data and check the home line’s data settings to avoid unwanted roaming charges.

SMS alerts arrive on your registered Singapore line. The Japanese number itself does not receive SMS or verification codes.

Know the call-service limits

  • Incoming calls only. You cannot make outgoing calls from the Japanese number.
  • No SMS or OTPs on the Japanese number. It is not suitable for account verification.
  • 10 incoming-call minutes per day. Ask about the daily reset, what happens after 10 minutes and whether unused minutes carry over before ordering.
  • Temporary extension. Do not use it for bank accounts, airline accounts or other long-term services. Access ends after the trip, and the extension may be reassigned.
  • No emergency calls through this service. In Japan, police use 110 and fire/ambulance use 119. Use a suitable voice-capable phone or ask nearby staff for help. See JNTO emergency contact information.

For food trips, family holidays and business travel

Whether you’re planning Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido or Fukuoka, choose a daily data allowance that fits your trip and confirm coverage for your itinerary.

  • Food trips: give participating restaurants a Japanese contact number and extension for reservation calls.
  • Families: provide the hotel with a contact route during your stay.
  • Solo travellers: keep your Singapore number away from one-off travel contacts.
  • Business trips: give suppliers and event contacts a temporary way to call you.

If you’re comparing Singtel, StarHub or M1 roaming with an eSIM, check the full cost, daily allowance, call requirements and setup for your exact plan. Your Singapore provider’s rates and conditions still apply to any use of that line.

Before you buy: check your phone

  • Check eSIM support for your exact model and regional version. An eSIM setting or manufacturer compatibility guide can help; do not rely on the model name alone.
  • Check that your phone can use the selected network and is not restricted to another provider.
  • Check whether the phone can keep your Singapore line active alongside the travel eSIM.
  • Have a reliable internet connection available for installation. Follow the supplied activation instructions so you do not start validity earlier than intended.

See our eSIM setup and help guide.

How to get your Japan eSIM

  • Send your travel dates, exact phone model and preferred daily data allowance by WhatsApp or email.
  • Our team confirms your price, service period, network details, activation steps, call-alert setup and applicable order conditions.
  • Complete the agreed payment process and receive your eSIM setup details and Japanese number with extension.
  • Install and activate as instructed. Select the Japan eSIM for mobile data and enable its data roaming if the instructions require it. Test SMS alerts on your registered Singapore line.

Before ordering, confirm network coverage, available speeds, hotspot support, the data-reset time, what happens after the daily data allowance, and the call allowance rules. These details depend on the supplied plan; no unlimited-data or 5G guarantee is made here.

Japan eSIM FAQ

How much does a Japan eSIM cost from Singapore?

S$1.50 per day for 1 GB a day, or S$2.00 per day for 2 GB a day. The first day is free on bookings of 4 or more consecutive days. A 7-day booking costs S$9.00 for the 1 GB/day plan or S$12.00 for the 2 GB/day plan.

Is 1 GB a day enough for Japan?

It depends on your usage. Maps, messaging, train information and browsing generally need less data than video streaming or large uploads. Choose 2 GB/day if you want a larger allowance, and monitor your use.

Is this an unlimited data eSIM?

No. Choose 1 GB or 2 GB per day. Confirm the reset time and what happens after that allowance is used before ordering.

How do people in Japan call me?

They dial the assigned Japanese number and enter your extension. An SMS alert goes to your registered Singapore number with a link to answer over Wi-Fi or data. No app installation is required.

How many call minutes are included?

Both plans include 10 minutes of incoming calls per day. Confirm overage, reset and rollover rules before ordering.

Can I make calls or receive verification SMS on the Japanese number?

No. The Japanese number supports incoming calls only and does not send or receive SMS or verification codes. SMS call alerts are sent separately to your registered Singapore line.

Can a restaurant put this number into its booking form?

Some booking forms do not support extensions. Add the extension to the notes field where available and check that the venue can dial it. Acceptance by a particular restaurant or booking platform is not guaranteed.

Can I keep my Singapore number?

Yes, with a compatible dual-SIM setup. Your registered Singapore line must be able to receive the SMS call alerts abroad. Check roaming requirements and any charges with your telco, and use the Japan eSIM for data as instructed.

When should I install and activate the eSIM?

Use a reliable internet connection and follow the supplied instructions. Confirm the activation trigger before installing; do not assume installation and activation are separate for every plan.

Can I share data with a travel partner?

Confirm hotspot support for your supplied plan before ordering.

What happens to my Japanese extension after the trip?

It is released and may later be reassigned. Do not use it for long-term accounts or services you will need after your trip.

Is this the same as PayLater eSIM?

No. This page describes the Japan multi-day plans with a Japanese number and incoming-call allowance. PayLater eSIM is a separate offer with its own pricing, validity and payment terms.
